Bio

Giulianna is a first-year Dual Master’s Student in Public Health and Latin American Studies. Her research interests include the quality of medical care women are able to receive while detained and incarcerated, the nutrition pregnant women receive inside these institutions, the environment and sanitation of the prison itself impacting the health of pregnant women, and the relationship between mothers and their infants postpartum.

At SDSU, she strives to explore the evidence and community-based interventions that could be implemented to reduce the traumas experienced by mother and infant relationships to promote better health practices, which will reduce recidivism rates and stop the cycle of intergenerational incarceration.

Giulianna is on the trajectory to obtain an MD to become a practicing physician, with the eventual goal of instructing students as a Clinical Professor. She is pursuing an MPH as a means of amplifying the education she will receive in medical school, and advancing the tools and perspectives that will support Latine communities.
